Your theory would be awesome though and kinda reminds me of first Witcher, where at some point some guy was replaced by mage using illusion magic to fool Geralt. Little awesome detail we can see here: thalisman starts glowing slightly after Fury and fake Watcher get closer to fake Envy, and it never stops glowing completely because true Envy is always around, which means her watcher disguise could fool thalisman but only a little. So canonically it seems that Envy just put her thalisman nearby some random greedy creature, and then just took Fury to her and told her it was Envy. Also, Envy said that Council knew about Envy being fake watcher, and that they betrey her too, which means "the replacement" had to be done much earlier. Envy was suppose to be weakest of all sins, so there is no way she was able to create such a thing. Even the strongest illusion of Lust could be broken by one attack of the Fury, imagine how much stronger and complicated illusion would Envy need to cast to completely alter whole battle like that. We never saw Envy casting illusions, and it doesn't fit her sin. Read Chapter 1: the horsewoman meets the grandson of Sparda from the story darksiders 3 x male reader by Icedemon34 (Jordan White) with 2542 reads. Your theory is very interesting and all, but I doubt it is canon. I could easily see that the watcher was killed instead of Envy, that Envy got to Fury when they were walking in and that the whole battle was actually the watcher trying to break through the illusion but failed and was imprisoned first. Prior to the interaction, the watcher has a bit more of attitude expected "don't expect all the sins to be this easy" (though i might be getting my timing mixed up). While we don't see the same level of binding the watcher to fury in 3 that we did in 1 with War, it would seem like this could have been expected to "keep the horsemen in line." But notice that after the interaction, the watcher is basically a servant and is really passive, apologizing etc. In the second we had Death, an assassin-like character with daggers. In the first game we had control of War, with his huge sword. We have seen the power that the watchers can have over the horsemen, even to the point where they can control War who is arguably stronger than Fury (yes they all have their strengths but in terms of brute strength War seems to lead the pack). ‘Darksiders 3’ Gameplay Shows an Early Battle With Envy Jeremy Ray Games Xbox PlayStation PC Gaming In Darksiders 3, we’re in control of a new horseperson of the apocalypse. I don't think its outside the realm of possibility that the Council genuinely put Fury where they knew (or thought) Envy was and she basically fooled Fury to killing the watcher and planted the talisman for Fury to kill all the others. We have already seen examples of the sins actually changing the perception of even the horsemen and fooling them with visions.
